I love to draw trees. What’s wrong with me?

I love any excuse to draw a tree. My sketch book is full of them. My picture books often feature them.

My most inspired drawings tend to have plenty of trees.

I remember a documentary 16mm film they used to show in primary school. It was something about 5 Disney artists going out and painting/drawing a tree all in different styles. Loved that film.

It’s an odd obsession but I don’t think it’s that extraordinary. I’ve met other illustrators who have sketchbooks full of trees. I think it’s meditative to draw a tree. Even when based on a photo I will find a rhythm to my line making and a patterning of the tree that is very enjoyable. Go draw a tree. You’ll love it.
